The community of Waynesburg University and the wider collegiate wrestling world are mourning the tragic passing of Jessie James Orbin Jr., a standout student-athlete and team captain who died at the age of 20 following a motorcycle accident.

According to reports, Orbin sustained a severe brain injury in the crash on June 14, 2026. Despite medical intervention, the injury was later confirmed to be non-survivable. His death was formally announced by Waynesburg University, which extended condolences to his family and praised his lasting contributions to the wrestling program.

Orbin was regarded as one of the most accomplished wrestlers in program history. As captain of the Yellow Jackets wrestling team during the 2025–26 season, he built an outstanding career record of 107–25 and maintained a 38-match dual-meet winning streak. He also secured two Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) championships and earned the title of Outstanding Wrestler at the 2026 conference championships.

Beyond his athletic success, Orbin was recognized for his leadership, discipline, and work ethic. Coaches and teammates described him as a competitor who led by example, pushing those around him to perform at their best while maintaining humility and respect for others. He was twice named Waynesburg University Male Athlete of the Year, underscoring his impact across the athletic department.

Off the mat, Orbin worked as a groom at The Meadows harness racing track, a role connected to his family’s involvement in horse racing. He was known for his dedication, strong character, and close relationships with family and friends. Those who knew him remember a young man who balanced ambition with kindness and loyalty.

He is survived by his father Jessie James Orbin Sr., stepmother Kristyn Orbin, and siblings Haley Orbin, Raelynn O’Donnell, and Ryan O’Donnell. He was preceded in death by his mother, Brianna Orbin, who passed away in 2017. Community members have since organized support efforts to assist the family during this difficult time.

Jessie James Orbin Jr. will be remembered for his athletic excellence, leadership, and the lasting impact he made on teammates, coaches, and all who knew him.
