18th and Vine Shooting Today: One Dead, One Injured in Kansas City District Gunfire Incident

A major fire broke out at a Brooklyn church on Friday afternoon, prompting a large-scale emergency response as firefighters battled intense flames that quickly escalated and spread to nearby properties.

According to the FDNY, the fire was first reported just before 1:30 p.m. at the South Bushwick Reformed Church located at 855 Bushwick Avenue near Himrod Street. Fire officials confirmed that heavy fire conditions were observed inside the structure shortly after crews arrived on scene.

The blaze rapidly intensified, reaching a third-alarm classification by approximately 1:45 p.m., signaling a significant escalation in severity and the need for additional emergency resources. Firefighters reported that the flames extended beyond the church structure and began impacting surrounding properties in the densely populated Brooklyn neighborhood.

In total, approximately 63 units and nearly 200 firefighters and EMS personnel were deployed to the scene. Emergency crews are actively working to contain the fire, prevent further structural damage, and protect nearby buildings from potential spread.

Fire suppression efforts include multiple hose lines, ladder operations, and coordinated interior and exterior attacks where conditions allow. Firefighters are also focusing on perimeter control and safety operations due to the scale and intensity of the blaze.

Authorities have confirmed that, as of the latest update, no injuries have been reported. Emergency personnel remain on standby in case medical assistance is required, but no civilians or firefighters have been confirmed harmed in the incident so far.

Officials have not yet determined the cause of the fire. Investigators are expected to begin a full assessment once the fire is brought under control and the scene is deemed safe for examination. Potential causes such as electrical malfunction or accidental ignition have not been confirmed at this stage.

Traffic in the surrounding area has been impacted as streets remain closed to allow emergency vehicles access and ensure public safety. Residents have been advised to avoid the vicinity of Bushwick Avenue and Himrod Street while operations continue.

This remains an active and developing incident. Authorities have stated that further updates will be released as additional information becomes available and as firefighters make progress in bringing the blaze under control.
