Tornado Warning MN Today: Severe Storms and Dangerous Weather Conditions Threaten Communities

Severe weather conditions continue to impact parts of Minnesota today, as meteorologists warn of an elevated tornado threat alongside large hail, damaging winds, and heavy rainfall moving across multiple counties.

As of Friday afternoon, June 19, forecasters confirmed that a tornado risk has been introduced into the existing severe weather outlook, with conditions supporting the development of rotating thunderstorms capable of producing isolated tornadoes. The most significant threats currently include hail up to 1.25 inches in diameter, wind gusts reaching 60 mph, and localized flooding due to heavy rainfall.

Storm activity has been particularly active across Morrison County and Mille Lacs County, where thunderstorms continue moving east-southeast. Meteorologists have noted areas of broad rotation within these storms, which, while not always producing tornadoes, indicate atmospheric conditions that require close monitoring.

Additional concern is developing in Todd County, where a strengthening supercell thunderstorm has been observed near Long Prairie. This system is moving east-southeast at approximately 30 mph and has the potential to intensify further. Early reports suggest wind gusts around 40 mph and smaller hail, though conditions could escalate if the storm strengthens.

Meanwhile, storm cells moving through Cass County and into Crow Wing County have also shown signs of rotation, particularly near the Motley area. Tornado warnings were previously issued in these regions but have since expired or been canceled as storm dynamics shifted.

Despite the temporary expiration of some warnings, officials emphasize that the overall severe weather threat remains active. Atmospheric instability, combined with wind shear, continues to support the potential for new storm development and possible tornado formation throughout the evening.

Residents in affected areas are strongly advised to stay weather-aware, monitor alerts from local authorities, and be prepared to take immediate shelter if warnings are issued. Even storms that initially appear weak can intensify quickly under current conditions.

Emergency management agencies continue to monitor the situation closely, and further updates are expected as storms progress across the region.
