As of Friday afternoon, June 19, forecasters confirmed that a tornado risk has been introduced into the existing severe weather outlook, with conditions supporting the development of rotating thunderstorms capable of producing isolated tornadoes. The most significant threats currently include hail up to 1.25 inches in diameter, wind gusts reaching 60 mph, and localized flooding due to heavy rainfall.
Storm activity has been particularly active across Morrison County and Mille Lacs County, where thunderstorms continue moving east-southeast. Meteorologists have noted areas of broad rotation within these storms, which, while not always producing tornadoes, indicate atmospheric conditions that require close monitoring.
Additional concern is developing in Todd County, where a strengthening supercell thunderstorm has been observed near Long Prairie. This system is moving east-southeast at approximately 30 mph and has the potential to intensify further.
